A Close Call Overcomes Apathy (True Story)

I’ve never met Dawn in person; she contacted me online because of an article I wrote a few weeks ago on this blog.

Dawn’s True Story

Dawn was targeted, watched, and almost became a victim of home invasion. She and her husband have a set morning routine. Her husband leaves for work at 6:20 A.M. and leaves the garage door open to make it easy for Dawn to leave in her car ten minutes later at 6:30 A.M. That’s all it took—a ten minute window of opportunity—for this very aggressive dangerous creep to drive his car into her garage! Think about it: He drove his car into her garage knowing she was home! That tells me all I have to know about this degenerate: he’s obsessed and violent. He’s not thinking or caring about any of the consequences associated with this insane, over-the-top move. It also tells me he’s not doing this only for money or jewelry; he’s been watching and knows her husband has left. My experience tells me this guy also wants a piece of Dawn and will do whatever it takes to get it.

Her two young next door neighbors were walking their dog in the driveway. The home invader, now walking around her garage, hears the neighbors’ voices and peeks out to see where the voices were coming from, and their eyes meet. The invader jumps back into Dawn’s garage, and the neighbors claim to hear the sound of a gun being cocked. Next, his car starts and makes a loud noise as it hits something as he backs out of Dawn’s garage to speed away.

Dawn Knows She’s Lucked Out

Dawn, realizing her good fortune, wrote the following to me: “George, I can’t tell you how scared I was when I heard what happened. I could have been savagely beaten and who knows what else. He purposely wanted me to be in my house when he entered. Please try to get the word out. Before I open my garage door now, I get into my car, lock my doors and then I open the garage door with the opener. I would appreciate you writing about my experience, I really want to get the word out. I try to tell everyone about this so they are aware it could happen to anyone!  Thanks Dawn.”

Together We Can All Make a Difference

It feels great hearing from Dawn. Knowing she has become a crime-prevention advocate rather than having an apathetic approach to crime-prevention helps keep her and her loved ones safe and validates what I do. I make it my priority to tell everyone how important overcoming apathy is to maintain and improve their safety. Thank you Dawn!

Stay safe.
