Scrap metal theft has been on the rise for a while now; criminals find it easy to pilfer construction sites and residential homes for copper tubing and other metals that will fetch a nice price at the scrap yard. But now there is a trend that you may not have been aware of. Now thieves are targeting your car’s catalytic converter. The catalytic converter is made up of platinum, palladium, and rhodium, which can be sold for anywhere between $200 and $1000 an ounce. That’s easy pickings for a criminal who knows their way around a car and has a spare couple of minutes.
It’s always a good idea to keep your car in a garage when you can. But if you cannot, be vigilant and safe.
